If you have existing grass, it will not be affected by our machines. We trench only the area where the curb is laid. Outside of that, your lawn stays the same. We transfer the concrete using a Piledriver with large turf tires that won’t tear up your grass. Your curb is extruded through a professional curbing machine, and the concrete is mixed onsite with a specialized trailer and mortar mixer. We are completely self-contained—we don’t need water, electricity, or anything else from you. There is very minimal disturbance to your property. You should understand, though, that there may be very small leftover materials next to the curb or in the grass, which are easily picked up. Whether you’re in The Reserve at Lake Keowee, Keowee Key, or a neighborhood in Seneca or Clemson, we treat every property with care.
Not all curbing companies are the same. If another company’s price is significantly lower, ask yourself why. Lower prices usually mean less experience, fewer options, or a smaller crew. We use Sika color additives applied according to manufacturer specifications, solvent-based sealers (never water-based), and blended polymers and fiber in our mix for added strength. Our team is trained on the latest techniques, and we collaborate with curbing professionals across the country. Homeowners in Pickens County, Oconee County, Anderson County, and Greenville County trust Blue Ridge Curbing because we deliver consistent, high-quality results.
Curbing is a concrete product, and any company that says their curbing never cracks is not being honest. We minimize cracking by using the correct ratios and techniques for mixing and finishing. Spider cracks can occur in concrete and should not be confused with structural separation. Many factors contribute to cracking, including materials, layout, and temperature. The main challenges with landscape curbing are extreme angles, inclines, and declines. A curbing machine weighs approximately 210 pounds, so getting enough compression on slopes is difficult. Cracks over 1/4 inch wide on level ground indicate operator error or lack of compaction and are covered under our one-year workmanship warranty. Cracks in other situations are not.
We place expansion joints every 12–18 inches to relieve stress in the concrete as it cures. These joints work the same way as the cuts in your sidewalk or driveway—we’re putting controlled breaks in ahead of time so the curbing expands there instead of cracking randomly. If a small line appears near the ground at a joint, that means the control joints are doing their job. It does not mean the curbing has cracked.
Landscape curbing is designed for your landscape—don’t compare it to commercial curb in a parking lot. It doesn’t use the same aggregate. PSI for landscape curb varies depending on the type of sand and mix ratios, but most fall in the 2,000 PSI range. Rebar isn’t an option with extruded curbing. Some companies run cable through their curb for tensile strength. We use blended polymers and fiber in our mix, which increases both tensile and compression strength. This is one of the things that sets Blue Ridge Curbing apart from other decorative concrete curbing installers in the Seneca, SC area.
Yes. If your yard has existing grass and sprinklers, you can absolutely have curbing installed. There are a couple of things to know, though. Existing yards are considered a retrofit. Normally, curbing goes in before sprinklers, rock, mulch, or pine straw so we can create smooth, flowing lines without obstructions. Since your sprinklers and edging are already in place, we install the curb outside those areas and create new lines. We don’t move rock or remove old edging—that’s a landscaper’s job, and we’re curbers. We can easily place curb outside your sprinkler heads without blocking the spray, giving you clean, beautiful lines. The space behind the curbing can then be filled with your preferred material. This applies whether you’re in a lakefront community on Lake Keowee or an established neighborhood in Greenville or Anderson.
Absolutely. Smooth, flowing lines and curves give you the best look. Straight lines and sharp corners aren’t just less attractive—they’re harder to mow around and make proper drainage difficult. A 210-pound machine is laying your curb, and it’s constantly moving, so perfectly straight lines aren’t possible no matter who does the work. You want the curb around your house to flow so it’s easy to maintain and transitions cleanly from one section to the next. Look at yards that have curbing—do the lines flow, or do they look jagged and disjointed? That’s a telltale sign of an inexperienced operator. Flow is the first thing people notice when they drive by, especially in premium communities like The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards, The Reserve, or Waterford Pointe.
We provide a one-year workmanship warranty on all curbing installations. Because this type of concrete cures quickly, most issues show up within the first 24 hours. Spider cracks are a concrete reality that can occur, though we rarely see them. If a crack forms that’s more than 1/4 inch wide on level ground, that’s considered operator error and we’ll fix it under warranty. Cracks caused by vehicles, heavy mowers, tree roots, ground heaving, or other natural occurrences are not covered. Common sense applies—landscape curbing is not designed to support the weight of a vehicle.
Please mark all sprinkler heads with flags or paint before we arrive. When we cut the sod, we use a bed edger with a rotating blade that can damage unmarked sprinkler heads. We are not responsible for damage to sprinklers that aren’t properly marked. Also, please make sure your driveway or street area is clear of vehicles so our crew has room to park the truck and trailer.
For new construction, the best approach is to install curbing before sprinklers. Most sprinkler companies prefer this order, and so do we. It’s easier for everyone. If sprinklers go in first, they dictate where the curb goes, which usually results in lines that aren’t as smooth or flowing. When curbing goes in first, sprinkler heads can be positioned right next to it.
For existing lawns, 90% of the time we place the curb outside your existing heads to create clean lines. Your sprinkler heads will shoot over the curb and spray normally. After installation, keep your sprinklers off for at least 5 days while the concrete cures.
We apply a high-gloss solvent-based acrylic sealer to all colored curbing, whether stamped or not. This is what brings the color out and gives it that finished look. Water-based sealers don’t perform as well—make sure one is never used on your curb. All sealers will need to be reapplied over time. UV exposure will gradually break down the sealer’s luster. It won’t peel off or disappear, but it will lose its shine and need to be re-emulsified.
Another coat will bring your colors back to life, just like the original application. If any company claims they have a 10-year sealer, be skeptical. If that existed, every concrete company would be using it. We recommend resealing annually or as needed based on your preference for color intensity. You can do it yourself with a spray-on solvent-based sealer, or contact us to handle it.
This is one of the most important things to get right. We place small “V” cuts in the concrete at every area that could collect water. These drainage cuts are positioned where gravity naturally directs water, giving it a place to exit. The cuts handle direct rainwater only. Your downspouts must be extended over the top of the curb so roof runoff stays outside the curb from the start. Extending your downspouts or using black pipes to channel water away is critical. If water doesn’t exit through the drainage cuts before it pools against the house, it can lead to erosion or water damage.
A 4-inch concrete curb acts as a dam and will hold water. We are not responsible for damage caused by homeowner or landscaper negligence with drainage. This is exactly why smooth, flowing curves matter—you can position drains at the low points of curves where water naturally settles. Homeowners in lake communities around Lake Keowee and throughout Oconee County should pay special attention to drainage planning given the terrain.
Yes. We have a $600 minimum for any project. A curbing crew is typically 3–4 people with a truck, trailer, and all necessary equipment. Traveling to a property for 20 feet of curbing wouldn’t be financially viable for any company. For tree rings, we have a 25-linear-foot minimum, which gives you at least a 6-foot diameter. Tree rings need to be large enough to accommodate root growth over time, and they are more difficult and time-consuming to install. We require a 50% deposit to secure your installation date, with the remaining balance due at completion.
We are a decorative concrete curbing company—not a landscaping company. We don’t remove rock, mulch, pine straw, or old plastic and brick edging. We specialize in one thing and do it well. If you need landscaping work done before your curbing installation, we can refer you to local landscape professionals in the Seneca, Clemson, and Lake Keowee area.
Our $600 minimum applies to all service calls, including repairs. Whether the damage is 10 feet or 100 feet, we bring the same crew, equipment, and trailer. The effort and cost to mobilize are the same regardless of the repair size. During the first 48 hours after installation, do not perform any activity around the curb. Keep children and pets away. Avoid running mowers or weed eaters near it during the 28-day curing period.
